This is a list of all the currently useless creatures in IC. The goal is to upgrade or strategically nerf them until they become more viable for combining.
The least-used creatures include:
-Ram -Tuna -Hatchet Fish -Warthog?
Will add more as discussion evolves.

Isn't the hatchetfish good for making cheap spammy amphibious units?

I don't find myself really using mantis shrimp and I haven't seen others using it either. I think maybe it's just not worth the high damage it brings, as most combinations I've tried are either too expensive, too slow, or outclassed by the praying mantis. My best mantis shrimp unit is a pure swimmer.

Yeah true that. I think it needs more speed. It'd be realistic to give it leap, too, but there's a reason we didn't do that.

I find the spitting cobra to be quite useless. I also very rarely use the rattlesnake.

The rattlesnake is a good expo raider, due to its high damage and camouflage. Cobra sees decent use as generic Level 3 range and sometimes Level 5 as well.

NMR might see some use if level 1 rushes were viable, black widow/nmr could make for a nice spammy unit.
I'm seeing the tuna used a bit more, it makes for some very high end, high cost, high damage level 2s with its head + pack hunter and the torso can be added to units to give them a bit of bulk. Its water speed makes it a good map control melee on water maps, tuna/mantis gets over 50 damage with pack and frenzy while tuna scorpion (I think dragon uses these) makes for a good wc/gen sniper, haven't tried higher level stuff with this thing yet. I imagine the water speed + pack hunter would make for a good raider unit on maps like eroded too.
Also not sure if this is known or not but adding firefly wings to the blue tuna crashes the game.
Hatchet fish fills a niche since its the only water unit that can hover so you can get cheap water only units with a lot of mobility able to do things like fly into the rock formation in the center of islets. You can combine it with bombard beetles and have a dirt cheap water unit that can hover in between all the pools in grove and shoot up at the expos/kill the gens/be a general nuisance. It also makes for some decent level 3/4 raiders that work well on maps like vacation.
Warthog is good.
Mantis shrimp's keen sense makes for a great level 4 anti rattler/raider though I'm not sure if its better or worse than the hammerhead shark here since it does as you say have quite low speed particularly on its tail. I seem to have trouble getting its pincer strike onto low level units without pushing them into a higher level which isn't a problem I've had with things like the tarantula so maybe its only really useful at higher levels. Bull/shrimp makes for a good cheap and nasty level 5 melee but the shrimp can also be used for high end power units like elephant/shrimp.
The ram fills the unique role of being the only truly useless unit in the game and it will probably always retain that novelty.

If you're looking for low level mantis shrimp units (with the pincers), I'd try mantis shrimp/cheetah and mantis shrimp/zebra. Didn't about tuna/firefly legs so thanks for that--will test when I have access to the game.
I dunno, man. I like the ram xd

Can confirm that when adding firefly wings to the tuna IC crashes. I never even noticed this before xD lol
Edit: Wow it even seems like this ONLY happens with the IC steam version - like seriously I just tested it and IC does not crash with the non-steam version... that's really odd :/

You wouldn't think it's weird if you had to deal with all of the shit we did when beta testing all those months before release. xddd
