@pug mouse acceleration is a relatively useful feature that adjusts your sensitivity on the fly in regards to how fast you're moving your mouse
if you're moving the mouse slowly, your sensitivity is very close to what it's actually set in-game or in the control panel
if you're moving your mouse fast, the sensitivity gets increased by up to several times of the original sensitivity
this feature is handy if you have a small mousepad/almost no room for your mouse as you can still have some degree of precision by using a low base sensitivity, and still move your cursor around the entire screen with fast movements
you can test it by measuring how many centimetres you need to move your cursor from one side of your screen to the other when moving your mouse as slowly as possible, and then doing it again with a swift move to the end of the screen
if there's a noticeable difference in the amount of space needed, you have just diagnosed yourself with the cancer that is mouse acceleration
so, yeah, it can be a relatively useful feature, but it absolutely destroys any degree of consistency you may have with your mouse aim and makes it much harder to get good, as it brings a new variable to moving your cursor/crosshair; speed
you can disable it in the control panel under mouse, it's labeled 'enhance pointer precision', at least in vista. microsoft being microsoft, the checkbox needs to be UNTICKED if you want full control over your mouse instead of the gimmick that is mouse acceleration.
@matt: actually, this test is more compatible with rts games, especially if your sensitivity in-game is the same as desktop. i have no idea how i manage to score that well since the only parallel this test has with fps games is twitch aim, and ascend has no twitch element at all. it's much more about consistent smooth tracking than twitch usually found in cs and the like.
this obviously makes it much more esports than cs
also, matt, since you question your competence in fpses, can you tell me what's your usual sensitivity in an fps? use cm per 360° because every other unit is prone to fail due to games having different myaw values and mouse acceleration
edit: re-did the test, got 45k. esports to the end babe.
